Shift Research Lab

My Role:

Copywriting | Design | Strategy

Shift Research Lab provides unbiased data, research and capacity building support to organizations improving communities across Colorado. For almost two years, I worked with the Shift team to craft copy and layouts for their reports and blog posts. I also developed and executed a social strategy to increase awareness about their resources.

Throughout this work, I leveraged clear, concise language and approachable designs to make Shift’s complex data more accessible to a broader audience.

Reports

When developing reports for Shift, I crafted layouts with ample white space and simple, clean data visualizations. Data can get pretty complicated, so it was important to keep the layouts approachable—while still feeling like the information was coming from a reliable source. For the copy, I worked with the Shift team to structure the papers and translate their findings into layman’s terms, avoiding jargon without oversimplifying issues.

Social Media

To help increase engagement with Shift’s resources, I developed and executed a social strategy. One of our most successful campaigns encouraged followers to advocate for an accurate 2020 Census count. These kinds of posts helped make Shift’s data more accessible—and ultimately more actionable.

Blog Posts

For Shift’s blog, I crafted stories to help humanize our work and encourage advocacy around the democratization of data. You can check out a couple of the posts here:
